Alhamdulillah!
It's a new year for Muslims,I,therefore, congratulate Muslims worldwide on the celebration of another year on earth.May God forgive our sins from last year and grant us the ability to make amends where we have gone wrong in the New Year.May He continue to Guide and Protect us for the rest of our lives,Aameen.
Just like any other festive period in Islam,the New Hijra year,too reminds us of a lot of lessons that are attached to it.Let me briefly touch a couple of them...I shall start with a little intro,though!
Just as you and I know that the Prophet became a Messenger and a Prophet at the golden age of forty.We also know that the Holy Prophet Muhammad Sollallahu 'alaihi wasssalam was in fact the most trust worthy among his people so much so that they nick-named him 'Al-Ameen'. But,does this trust worthiness bought him any leverage among his people when he started preaching???
To some extent,yes,he was loved and respected by everyone before the Message,but,soon after he received the Message of God and started delivering them,the most loved and respected became the most hated!Very few were left by his side!
Lesson 1: Those Who Tell the Truth Have Very Few REAL Friends!
The Prophet taught us to tell and stand by the truth even if it's bitter...now I remember a verse of the Quran whose message is that we tell the truth even if it's against our very selves or our family and friends! The Truth is our trade mark as Muslims,even when you crack jokes,be truthful about it!
For Thirteen long and torturous years in Makkah,the Prophet and his few and generally poor (societal class) followers endured horrible tortures from their neighbors,family and friends...tortures of all sorts.The last three years was particularly HELL!!! Despite all the tortures,they didn't denounce the Truth...some died in the process,thereby becoming the first Matyrs of Islam...a rare honor that GUARANTEES PARADISE!
Lesson 2: Tell and Stand by the Truth No matter What!
A sound hadith of the Prophet reported that God loves the STRONG Muslim than the WEAK Muslim.The major difference between the two is how much truth either speaks!Like I said above,even when you are joking,be truthful about it! It's very important you do!
It was during the last three years of the Prophet's stay in Makkah that he lost his two MAJOR sources of Protection...his Uncle Abu Talib and Khadeejah,his wife.After their death,the Prophet was exposed to much more danger than ever! Things were so bad that they plotted to kill the Prophet in the dead of the Night!But Muhammad serves a Living,Strong,Able and Capable God. God proved this with the Prophet's Miraculous escape from Makkah!
Firstly the Assassins slept off,their sleep was so deep that they didn't wake up when the Prophet poured sand upon them.A second was when the Prophet was traced by horsemen who caught up with him by a cave.God caused the mouth of the Cave to narrow and implanted a laying dove sitting quietly on its eggs by the opening of the Cave and finally covered the opening of the Cave with a cobweb that normally takes a spider hours to weave with the spider sitting comfortably at the center!
Lesson 3:If God be with You,NONE can stand Against You!
During the short period in the Cave,the Prophet's Closest friend,AbuBakr who was traveling with him was scared and needed assurance from the Prophet,the Prophet responded,according to the Quran that "Don't Despair,God is with Us!"
That's the Message to all Muslims out there,when you discharge your duty faithfully to God,God would see you through in the darkest of Nights!
To cut long story short,the Prophet on arrival at Medina,were welcomed with the popular song that you and I know that goes like:Tola 'al Badiru 'alaina...
The Prophet and his followers from Makkah were welcomed heartily by the people of Medina (the Ansars) who saw them as though they were related by blood.The love was so much that they would share everything with the Muhajiroons (those coming from Makkah) EVERYTHING...I mean everything! Including their wives!How? I'll tell you.
Some that had two or more wives would divorce one so that a Muslim from Makkah would have a wife to share his bed with...those with shops would share with those that didn't have,they shared houses,lands...you name it!
Lesson 4:Sacrifice is Key to Peace and Development
Our greatest hindrance to development and progress in Nigeria is the fact that people of different tribes in Nigeria find it difficult to accommodate and tolerate others from another tribe.Instead of doing something about it,we would sit down idly and trade blames!The people of Medina were different,they saw no difference in color or tribe,be you Arabian or African in origin,it doesn't matter that day,what matters was faith...that you are a Muslim!
Of course,some guys wanted to take advantage of the crisis to enrich themselves so they joined the journey!They travelled along with the Muslims in hope of sharing in the great gifts that were put aside to welcome the displaced Muslims.To their dismay,the Prophet had a message for them which partly reads:
"The Intention of a person is more important than his actions and whatever you intended for,you shall get.Those that made the Hijra,the Journey for the sake of God and His Prophet,their journey is for God and His Prophet.But,whosoever made the journey to marry a woman or acquire properties,he would have it.Your Hijra is for what you intended it for"
Wassalaamu 'alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakaatuhu!
