The unfortunate death of Hauwa Liman is a big dent on our image as a country.I'm not talking of the government, I'm talking of us the citizens of this great country, Nigeria.
We honestly need to wake up from our slumber. Unless we wake up to our responsibilities as citizens, the killings shall continue and no one would be safe. How do I mean? You may ask.
'The Copy Cat' Effect
When a person commits a crime and gets away with it,people would start thinking about how this could be? There shall be protest and criticisms and most times, as we have observed in Nigeria, nothing happens and we all forget about it. We may forget, but other criminal minds haven't. If this happens too often without any concrete counter move or response coming from the society, other criminals may be tempted to try out their own lucks too. This is how it begins....with time, this criminals get emboldened by the inaction of the public and move to network themselves, there institutionalizing their criminal actions. This is how many crimes got institutionalized in our society today.Terrorism is now taking this very dangerous toll on the people already.
Initially, it was only the Niger Delta agitators we had in Nigeria. After a very long time of struggling with this problem comes the Boko Haram. They, too, were allowed to flourish untill they grew so big that they now have Islamic State of West Africa (ISWA) who are reportedly to have been responsible for the execution of Hauwa Liman. we also have the so called 'Killer Herdsmen' too who are now growing both in popularity and in number.
We Need to Change Our Attitude
It's very important for us a people to revisit our values and make the necessary changes. I want to belief that terrorism is a menace of the poor because, I'm yet to hear of anyone with big thriving businesses engaged in terrorist acts. Don't get me wrong, it is the rich that can possibly sponsor such an elaborate campaign. But, what I'm saying is that those that do the dirty work are the children of the poor! This is where you come in, first, as a Muslim and secondly, as a citizen of this country.
It is a very important duty of the Muslims to ensure that his neighbors are faring well. In a narration of the Prophet (S.A.W.), he was reported to have said sworn that you are not a believer if you feed well and your neighbor goes hungry. Act of charity is a compulsory duty of the Muslims no matter how poor you are because the Prophet had been reported to have said that a smile is also a form of charity!
In other words, we have been the ones that created the terrorist groups INDIRECTLY by our miserly attitude to the less privileged in our communities!
I Congratulate Hauwa's Family!
I know this statement might look cruel, but, this is how I mean it. I'm now talking from the religious angle. If Hauwa is a Muslim until the point she died, then, I think she is a very lucky girl!
In Islam, helping others out of problems which was in fact her chosen career, is one of the greatest act of worship to Allah. She was adopted when she at work and she was executed for no other crime than for following the orders of her Creator. When people get killed in that manner, we say they have been martyred. Martyred in Islam are favoured people. This is because, the Prophet (S.A.W.) have confirmed that they would be among the inhabitants of Paradise!
Now, you can see why I congratulate her family? Their daughter is a confirmed inhabitants of Al Janna plus she could be interceding on their behalf in the last day!
Muslims Don't Kill Muslims
The execution of Hauwa is another clear cut evidence that the Bokos and all ISWA among other splinter groups are not Islamic groups. The Quran forbids extra Judicial killings in any form whatsoever! Whoever does that shall certainly face the consequences. The Quran is very clear about that!
It is not even allowed to cut down trees during war without a good reason let alone animals. It is part of the rule of engagement in Islam that whoever that seeks refuge in Temples, Churches even in shrines shouldn't be harmed. Women and children are not to be harmed. In fact no one is meant to be harmed until they carry arms to fight.
When you kill UN INTENTIONALLY, in Islam, there's a very huge fine to be paid. The last time I checked, it was well over N20 million! You either pay the price you fast for 60 consecutive days non stop. If you reach the 59th and take a break, you'll have to start all over from one again. You are not even allowed to kill yourself in Islam!
Having said that, it is my prayers that the other hostages are rescued before the terrorists are able to carry out their threats of killing another hostage in the next 30 days.
Salaam.
